FAQ and pricing

  • How much will my tattoo cost?
*(Pricing for conventions and guest spots is $200 hourly)* The amount of time booked will determine the cost of each session. For all new projects, I charge a flat rate of $600 for a half day session (11am-2ish, or 3:00-6ish), and $1000 for a full day session. (11am-5ish with a lunch break). My half day sessions are my minimum charge for appointments. Deposits will be taken off the final appointment. When we book your appointment I will recommend which session to book based on how much time I think the tattoo will take. The amount you owe on your appointment day will be based on which appointment you book. If you tap out early, you owe the amount that you booked for, so please take into consideration if you can't get tattooed for long periods of time. If I get done tattooing you early during a full day session, I will prorate to the equivalent hourly time for that session. The total tattoo price depends on the subject matter, and how you sit for the tattoo. I work fairly quickly and I like to be very up front about pricing so there’s never any confusion. Please let me know in your contact form if you have a specific budget. Good tattoos take time, and I will not sacrifice the quality of your tattoo to get it done faster/cheaper!
  • What forms of payment do you accept?
I can do cash or card. Please keep in mind that if you pay with card there is a 3.3% fee, and we also have an ATM in the shop. Nothing is preferred over the other, so do what's easiest for you!
  • Where are you located?
Heart of Gold Tattoo, 1030 W Colorado Ave in Colorado Springs
  • When can I expect a response to my inquiry?
As of right now, I answer my emails every Tuesday, so you should get a response the following Tuesday evening. If I am off work/out of town you may have to wait an additional week. Your patience is much appreciated!
  • Why haven’t I gotten a response?
Sometimes my response emails will go into your spam folder. Check there first! I will try to respond to each inquiry, even if it's not something I am interested in tattooing. I will let you know if there's something similar I'd like to do, or if there's another artist I can recommend for what you want if it's outside my style range. Generally, you will not get a response if your contact form was too vague or missing information, missing reference photos, or missing photos of the area being tattooed. Include as much info as possible and be sure to fill out the contact form completely!
  • What qualifies as a "large scale project?"
Mostly just anything that takes more than one session. It doesn't have to be a full sleeve or back piece (it can be!), but just anything that takes up big space with larger subject matter!
  • Are there any tattoos you won’t do?
I’m not currently taking on many smaller tattoos (smaller than 6ish inches). There are always exceptions to this rule, so don’t be afraid to reach out either way! I will not take on any project that I feel has hateful or discriminative imagery. I am not generally comfortable tattooing realism, anime or cartoon character, fantasy, or pop culture tattoos (this includes album covers). Please understand that your design will be in my normal neotraditional style, as you see in my most recent work. I need my clients to trust me and my work, and creative freedom is much appreciated. Be sure to look through my portfolio and be sure you like the style I tattoo in before submitting an inquiry. If I’m not comfortable tattooing something for you or I feel it’s outside of my style range, I will try my best to refer you to someone who can do it for you!
  • What kind of photos should I send?
Send photos of tattoos/art you want to inspire your design, and tell me what specifics you like about them. Send straight-on photos of the area being tattooed so I can draw on the photo, that way the tattoo fits you perfectly and fits around any other surrounding tattoos.
  • How soon can I get an appointment?
It depends on what you’re wanting! I generally book about three months out, but sometimes I will have random time slots available. Plan for anywhere from 1-3 months out. If you need an appointment more than 3 months out, I recommend waiting to contact me about it! If you’re traveling to get tattooed I will generally make an exception and book you further out in my schedule.
  • Do you do coverups/reworks?
Rarely. I will generally only do coverups if the old tattoo is extremely light. I do not do coverups or reworks on new clients.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
•Deposits (prepayments) are nonrefundable and non-transferrable under any circumstance. •Please reschedule or cancel your appointment at least 3 days before your appointment or you will need to put down a new deposit to rebook. •No-call no-shows include the following: not showing up to your appointment, being 15+ minutes late to your appointment without notifying (call, text, Instagram message, etc.). All of these will result in forfeiture of ANY deposit given regardless of amount. I DO NOT rebook no call no shows. •If you reschedule before the 3 day window, you are allowed 2 reschedules before a new deposit is required to book. I set all appointments up through Square and you can manage your appointments via the link you are sent after you book.
  • Will I see the design before I get tattooed?
You will see your design when you come to the shop for your appointment, and any small changes that need to be made can be made that day. If bigger changes need to be made, you will need to reschedule your appointment. If you like my work, this shouldn't be a problem. If you're iffy, unfortunately I'm not the artist for you!
  • Do you do tattoo in other cities/states?
Yes! Guest spots and conventions happen a few times a year and I post them on my Instagram and on the homepage of this website.
  • Will color tattoos work with my skin tone?
Most likely, yes! If you’re worried, you can always include a well-lit photo of the area you're wanting tattooed and I can help assess what colors will work best for you and design your tattoo accordingly. I also offer free color dot tattoos, where we can test the colors you want and see how they heal before you get tattooed. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask about color tests before your appointment, questions about ink, or to see healed photos of tattoos on darker skin. Tattoos are for everyone, regardless of your skin tone.
  • What can I do to prepare for my appointment?
I recommend staying hydrated ALWAYS but especially a few days before & after your appointment. Hydrated bodies are MUCH easier to tattoo and bleed less! A good sleep the night before your tattoo is highly recommended. Please eat BEFORE your tattoo appointment. Getting tattooed burns energy, so if you want to sit well and sit for a long time, you need food! I recommend high carb and high protein, especially for breakfast the day of your appointment. Feel free to bring snacks for when we take breaks as well. I always take a few ibuprofen before getting tattooed. It helps once the tattoo starts getting sore, and usually makes it easier to push through to the end. Please do not take prescription painkillers before or during your tattoo. I prefer if my clients don’t use numbing creams, especially for larger tattoos. It tends to make the skin harder to tattoo and usually makes the tattoo hurt more once the numbing effect wears off (usually it wears off after about an hour regardless of how long the brand says it lasts). Feel free to email me with any questions you might have about your appointment!
